What are your fees?

Afternic does not charge a fee to list your domains for sale. You pay a sales commission only when you sell your domain. We offer optional paid services that can help you buy or sell your domain, include ordering an appraisal, category and homepage featured upgrades, or hiring an Afternic Agent to inquire about a domain that is not currently listed for sale with us.

Sales commission on domain names sold under Network Promotion are 15%. On domain names sold through Premium Promotion, the sales commission for Afternic is 20%.

What payment methods do you accept?

We accept the following payment methods:

  • PayPal (no additional fees, payments are capped at $2,500)

What is domain parking or domain monetization?

Domain parking is a program that allows you to use our Parking landing pages that display ads and earn revenue on your undeveloped or unused domain names. These parked pages are created by Afternic. Afternic’s industry-leading technology will evaluate the domain and display relevant advertising based on the intent of the domain name, generating revenue for you, the domain owner, when site visitors click on ads. To take advantage of Afternic’s parking services, you will first need to change the Domain Name Servers (DNS) on your domains to ns1.afternic.com and ns2.afternic.com. Changing your DNS is easy. See our instructions in the DNS FAQ.

What is sales acceleration?

Domain owners can accelerate the sale of their domain by displaying a “For Sale” link on their parked pages. This generates qualified inquiries from potential buyers. Parked pages with the “For Sale” link to our Afternic team sell 10X faster than domains without a link. For more information on sales acceleration, click here.

How do I change my Domain Name Servers (DNS)?

Before you are able to earn revenue from your parked domains, you will need to change your DNS settings so that your pages are pointed at Afternic’s Domain Name Servers (DNS): ns1.afternic.com and ns2.afternic.com Domain Name Servers are easily changed through your registrar. Click below for help to change your DNS with any one of the following registrars:

Your domain name servers should be set to ns1.afternic.com and ns2.afternic.com

Depending on the registrar, DNS changes may take up to 24-72 hours to complete. You will be able to see your parked pages after the name servers have resolved. What is domain optimization?

Domain optimization is the process of maximizing the revenue earned from direct type-in traffic to your domain. There are a variety of methods and technologies to achieve this. They can include, but are not limited to: keyword optimization, image optimization, template optimization, as well as rotation and A/B testing. Afternic’s world-class optimization technology and experienced optimization team ensures that you earn the greatest possible revenue for your domain portfolio.

How much will I earn?

Earnings depend on your domain names and the amount and type of traffic they attract. Afternic has partnered with the best ad providers to ensure the highest returns for domain name traffic. Our next generation optimization technology and account management team works hard to maximize your earnings.

How do I join Afternic Parking?

Afternic’s integrated sales acceleration and parking/monetization platform enables domain owners to earn parking revenue while their names are listed for sale. Parking your domains on Afternic is simple:

  1. If you already have an account, see step 2. If you aren’t already a member, create your free Afternic account.
  2. Add your domains to your account.
  3. Change your Domain Name Servers so that your domains point to Afternic. Only after your domains resolve to Afternic can you begin earning advertising revenue from traffic to your domains. .

When and how do I get paid for my parking revenue?

Payments are made around the 15th of every month for the previous month’s earnings. Payout methods include PayPal, check, direct deposit and international wire. Minimum earnings apply. Customers must fill out and send in a completed tax form in order to receive parking revenue.

You can find out how much you have earned on your Dashboard Account Summary, or by adding the "Parking Net Revenue" column to your Domain Portfolio view.

What’s my revenue share?

Parking customers are provided the majority of the earned revenue. Due to contractual obligations, revenue shares are not disclosed. It’s important to understand that revenue share quoted by any parking service depends on the contracts negotiated with their ad providers. For example, a 95% revenue share quoted means little if that partner is only getting 45% of the revenue from the feed provider. In that case, your payout is really only 42%, and the feed provider makes more than you do! As the owners of more than 900,000 domain names, and the world’s largest premium domain network – Afternic leverages the volume of our domain traffic and strategic relationships developed over years in the industry to deliver the best fees in the industry.

What does my Parking Status mean?

Your parking status reflects your account verification status by our primary third party advertising provider. There are five statuses:

  1. Approved - Our third party advertising provider successfully approved your account verification, allowing your parking services to proceed.
  2. Pending Approval – Our third party advertising provider is in the process of verifying your account. You will still receive ads and have the potential to earn revenue while your account is in this status.
  3. Verification Required – Our third party advertising provider requires an additional verification. To do so, you can navigate to your Dashboard and select the button titled “Verify Your Account”. You will still receive ads and have the potential to earn revenue while your account is in this status. However, please note that there is a 10-day window to complete this action or your parking services will regrettably be suspended.
  4. Suspended - If your verification is not submitted within the allotted 10-day time frame your parking service will regrettably be suspended. In this status, your domains will not receive advertisements that result in revenue. You can request to resolve this status and re-activate your parking services. To do so, simply navigate to your Dashboard and select the button titled “Verify Your Account”.
  5. Disapproved – This status means that our third party advertising provider flagged your account. In this status, your domains will not receive advertisements that result in revenue. You can request to resolve this status and re-activate your parking services. To do so, simply navigate to your Dashboard and select the button titled “Verify Your Account”.
I don’t plan to park my domains, but am being asked to verify my account for parking.

Account verification ensures that we’re providing Afternic members with the best opportunity to monetize their domains and accelerate sales. The process takes less than thirty-seconds and in just a few clicks you’ll be able to take advantage of the full Afternic platform, should you decide to park in the future. Simply navigate to your Dashboard and select the button titled “Verify Your Account”.

Promoting Domain Sales

How can I get more exposure for the sale of my domains?

There are two promotional levels available to Afternic members: Premium Promotion and Network Promotion. Premium Promotion offers maximum exposure for your domains. Selecting Premium promotion puts your domains in front of 75 million prospective buyers on more than 100 partner sites worldwide. Premium Promotion domains are also eligible for fast transfer, eliminating the lengthy escrow process.

Another way to accelerate the sale of your domain is to park your domains with Afternic. When you park a domain with Afternic a “domain for sale” banner and link appears on the page. Parked pages with the “for sale” link sell on average 10x faster than domains without this link, and you earn revenue from your parked domain too.

What is the right promotional level for me?

Sellers can opt to list domains for sale through either Network Promotion or Premium Promotion. The features and benefits of these distribution levels are outlined here:

Network Promotion: Your domains will be promoted for sale to 75 million potential buyers each month, and you will receive dedicated sales support. All sales are supported by Afternic's secure escrow service. The commission rate for a Network listing is 15% or at least a minimum of $60, whichever is greater.

Premium Promotion: You receive all the benefits of Network Promotion plus promotion to an additional 10 million buyers monthly, potential for an average sales price of $1,600 (vs. $1,200 for the Network Promotion). Eligible domains receive instant transfer capabilities, which eliminates the lengthy escrow process, making your domains more attractive to buyers. Domains listed on Premium Promotion must be registered with a Premium Promotion partner. The commission rate for a Premium Promotion listing is 20% or at least a minimum of $120, whichever is greater. The following requirements must be met to select Premium Promotion:

  • .com, .net, .biz, .org, .pw and .info TLDs only
  • Listed domains must have a buy now price
  • Asking price must be below $25,000
  • Registered with a Premium Promotion Partner

How do I price my domains on Afternic?

Buy Now Price: The Buy Now price is the ideal price that you would like to get for your domain. This is the price a buyer sees on the Afternic site and can purchase at that price immediately. Keep in mind that Buy Now prices should be realistic, and if domain prices are set too high, buyers may turn away and choose another name. Buy Now prices are binding.

Floor Price: The floor price is the amount your Afternic sales executive can negotiate to (if necessary) to close the sale without contacting you for approval. Buyers do not see this price. We recommend setting the floor price 20%-30% less than your Buy Now price. This is a very effective way to help sell more domains for you on the spot. The floor price allows your sales executive to pull a buyer into range if they cannot meet your Buy Now price. Floor prices are binding

Reserve Price: The reserve price is used if you are participating in Afternic Auctions. If a reserve price is met by a bidder, your domain will be pushed into a 7-day Closing Soon Auction. At the end of the auction period, the seller is required to sell to the highest bidder. If you do not have a reserve price on your listing, but receive an offer that you would like to accept, you can set a reserve price at that time which is equal to that current offer. This will list your domain in an auction for 7 days, which may help you attract a higher offer from other buyers. Closing Soon Auctions are also promoted in RSS feeds subscribed by thousands of buyers and highlighted on the Afternic Buy page. Reserve prices are binding.

Minimum Price: The Minimum Price is the lowest amount anyone can submit for your domain. It is often used as a starting point to help your Afternic sales executive pull a buyer into your range. In other words, this is a conversation starter. If you receive an offer at the minimum offer price you can either accept it, reject it, counter it, take no action at all (not recommended), contact your sales executive to negotiate with the buyer on your behalf. Contacting your sales executive is highly recommended, so that they can use their domain sales expertise to get you the best possible offer for your domain. Minimum Prices are non-binding.

Why can’t I see my domains when I search for them?

If your domains are not showing in search, it’s possible they are pending review. Domains are reviewed within 1-2 business days, prior to activating your listing, in order to maintain the quality and integrity of the marketplace for our members. To view the status of your domains, log into your account and go to your Dashboard. Can I register my domain with Afternic?

Afternic partners with industry-leading registrars to provide special incentives for Afternic members, including savings on bulk registrations. To maximize your sales potential we recommend you register your domain names through one of our Premium Promotion registrars to get the maximum exposure to potential buyers. Is GoDaddy an Afternic DLS Partner?

Yes! Domain names that are priced or require a price request will show up as premium offerings when a Go Daddy customer does a search. Note that domains sold through GoDaddy go through Afternic's escrow process.

Can I change my username?

Yes, you can. You must email Customer Service (service@afternic.com) from the email address you used to set up your account. Please include your current username as well as the new username you wish to use.

Can I change what is displayed on my Afternic profile page?

Yes, you can. When you are logged into your Afternic account, go to Account Details and in the section under Privacy, you can edit what you wish to display or hide on your profile page.

Domain Portfolio

When I make edits to my domains, why do the changes not get saved?

Please remember to click the green Save button at the top right of your domain list (when viewing your Portfolio). If you have been clicking on the Saved button and your changes are still not being saved, please contact Customer Service.

When I try to add domains, why do I get a message telling me someone else is listing it for sale?

Sometimes the previous owner of a domain name has forgotten to remove it from his/her account, or the sold record of the domain name is still in the system. Please contact Customer Service at 866-351-9586 (toll free in the US) or 781-839-7990 (international), or email Service@Afternic.com to assist with this type of issue. They will be able to remove the domain name so you can add it to your account for listing.

Why are my domains 'Pending Review'?

Domains are reviewed within 1-2 business days, prior to activating your listing, in order to maintain the quality and integrity of the marketplace for our members. If you selected Premium Promotion listing status, please note you must opt your domain into that promotion level. To view the status of your domains, log into your account and go to your Dashboard. If you have further questions, please contact Customer Service for assistance at service@afternic.com or 866-351-9586 (US) or 781-839-7990 (worldwide).

Why are my domains pending review for Trademark or Adult Theme when they are neither of those things?

Our review check process is very sensitive and will pick up on a combination of letters that may be in our system as red flags. Do not worry, we will be able to fix this for you if you contact Customer Service at 866-351-9586 (toll free in the US) or 781-839-7990 (international), or email Service@Afternic.com to let them know about the issue.

How do I change or rearrange the columns on my Domain Portfolio?

Directly above the column headers, click “ADD TO OR CHANGE COLUMN ARRANGEMENT.” You will be able to drag over more column options, remove column options, and arrange the way the columns are displayed. When finished, click on the “SET COLUMNS” button, and when you are back to the Domain Portfolio page click the green ‘Save Changes’ button at the top right.

Note: These settings will only be saved on the browser type and computer you are using. If you open up a different type of browser (like Firefox, when you’ve been using Google chrome), the column changes will not be reflected there, nor will it be reflected if you are logged into a different computer.

How do I delete a domain name from my portfolio?

When you are in the Domain Portfolio section of your account, check the box to the left of the domain name you wish to delete. A Delete button will appear right above the top of your domain list. Click the Delete button and then click the green Save Changes button at the top right.

Afternic Services - Afternic Agent

What does an Afternic Agent do?

An Afternic Agent helps you obtain a domain that is already owned by someone. We will reach out to the owner of a domain that you are interested in purchasing, present an offer on your behalf, and try to negotiate the best deal possible. We will work on your behalf to acquire this domain for you.

What are the costs for signing up for an Afternic Agent Service?

There is a $69 sign-up fee. This fee not only includes our effort in reaching out to the owner, but an appraisal as well. We will send you an appraisal on the domain you would like to purchase within two business days. This appraisal will include a price of what we think the domain is worth, and a summary of how we came to that number. This way, you have a good idea of what the domain is worth, and what you may want to offer.

What if you cannot get in touch with the owner? Will I be refunded the $69?

The $69 sign-up fee is a one time, non-refundable payment. There is no guarantee that we will be able to get in touch with the owner, and the owner is under no obligation to respond to our inquiries. However, we will try for as long as possible to get a response from the owner.

What should my initial offer be?

The minimum initial offer required is $200. However, you can increase your offer at any time, and you can increase your offer as many times as you like.

What happens when a deal is met?

When the owner accepts the offer, the domain will automatically be placed into escrow. Our escrow department will work with both parties to ensure the buyer’s payment is received in escrow, the domain is transferred to the buyer and the funds are released to the seller.

How do I order an Afternic Agent Service?

Can I order multiple Afternic Agent Services?

There are no limitations on the number of domains you can order through the Afternic Agent Service. Simply enter all the domains for the order on the order form. You can also add additional domains in the shopping cart.

What is the term of service?

Am I required to submit an initial offer with my order?

No, you have the option of submitting an offer with your order, or requesting a price inquiry from the domain owner. You are not required to submit an initial offer for a domain during the ordering process.

Can I order the Afternic Agent Service for a domain listed in Afternic inventory?

No, the Afternic Agent Service cannot be ordered for any domain that’s actively listed in Afternic inventory. Offers can be made on these domains from the domain profile page for the domain.

Can I change my initial offer after purchasing the Afternic Agent Service?

Yes, initial offers can be updated in the Member Center.

Do I have to be a member to submit an order?

Yes, an Afternic membership is required to place an order for the any Afternic Service(s). Afternic memberships are free and can be initiated here.

Domain Sales Fulfillment

What is the Domain Sales Fulfillment Process for Afternic Buyers and Sellers?

3 Steps for Seller

  1. Seller selects a disbursement method.
  2. Afternic retrieves payment from buyer
    * Be sure not to transfer the domain name until Afternic has completed this step and sends you a confirmation.
  3. Once payment is approved, Seller transfers the domain to buyer.

3 Steps for Buyer

  1. Buyer selects payment method and submits registration details and payment.
  2. Afternic retrieves payment and approves funds.
  3. Seller transfers the domain, and buyer confirms domain transfer.

Note: If your sale comes through an affiliate or a sales rep, the Buyer steps are handled by our team, once payment is approved.

If your sale comes through a Premium Partner and is Fast Transfer eligible it will automatically transfer over to the new registrar and all fulfillment steps will be completed at time of sale, except for the seller’s selection of their disbursement method. Seller will need to login to their Afternic account and go to the domain sale summary and select a disbursement method. Funds for the sale will then be released 7 days from the date the domain sold, provided that it falls on a business day, otherwise funds will be released on the next business day. This is due to a security measure put in place to protect the gaining registrar as well as the seller from encountering a fraudulent buyer.

How long does the fulfillment process typically take?

The sale fulfillment process typically takes 7-10 business days to complete due to multiple actions required by each party involved. The process can complete much faster, provided both buyer and seller are motivated to complete the transaction quickly. Our service agents work as a liaison between the buyer and seller, assisting with the transfer and payment process, as well as following up with both buyer and seller to ensure escrow steps are being completed in a timely fashion.

Note: Fast Transfer sales are automatically completed, but funds are not released until 7 days after the domain sold for security purposes.

Afternic Services - Appraisal

Are there restrictions on what types of names can be appraised?

Yes. We do not appraise domains that may conflict with trademarks, domains related to adult content or domains related to inflammatory content.

Is it possible to submit my entire portfolio for appraisal?

How do I order an appraisal?

How do I place an offer?

Members can submit an offer for any active domain in Afternic inventory from a search result or a domain profile page. Simply enter an offer amount greater than or equal to the indicated minimum in the offer box.

How many offers can I place for a domain?

Only one offer can be placed per domain for each member. If your offer has expired, you can reactivate the offer by submitting a new one in the Offers Section of the Member Center.

When does my offer expire?

All offers are active and legally binding for a 7-day period.

Where can I view and manage my offers?

All offers can be viewed in your Dashboard and Buying Offers section of the Member Center.

Where do I view the offer history?

Offer history can be viewed for each domain by clicking on the “+” next to the domain name in the Buying or Selling Offers section of the Member Center.

How do I accept an offer?

To accept an offer, click on the status indicator for the domain to view the available responses. Then, click on the green “Accept” button to accept an offer and submit your response.

How do I reject an offer?

To reject an offer, click on the status indicator for the domain to view the available responses. Then, click on the red “Reject” button to reject an offer and submit your response.

How do I counter offer an offer?

To counter an offer, click on the status indicator for the domain to view the available responses. Then, click on the blue “Counter Offer” button, enter an amount greater than the current offer amount and click on the “Submit Counter Offer” button to submit your counter offer.

Can I update my original offer amount?

Yes, you can update your offer before the Seller responds to it. This can be done for your newly submitted offers or on your counter offers.

To update your offer, click on the status indicator for the domain, enter a new offer amount greater than the current offer amount and click on the "Place New Offer" button.
